The above picture, of Socrates and the famous Flammarion print of adventuring into
Kosmic realities, addresses two fundamental purposes of IDL Essays. Socrates
developed “Eleucus,” the Greek name for his process of dialogical interviewing,
a forerunner of IDL interviewing. His aim was to surface and challenge assumptions
in order to arrive at universal truths. IDL uses phenomenological enquiry to surface
and table assumptions in order to access emerging potentials at the edge of chaos
that heal, balance, and transform. The man in the Flammarion print is accessing
similar emerging potentials, yet remaining grounded in everyday, waking reality.
